God tells us to become holy as He is holy

"Mark 16:15 preach the gospel to every creature. Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe (do) all things whatsoever I (Jesus Christ) have commanded: Revelation 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega .. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, .. they .. have right to the tree of life, and .. enter .. the city."

I am a retired pastor of the Church of God (Tennessee).
My name is Isaac Livingston. I am from Neyyoor India.

1. God tells us to become holy as He is holy

God is holy. Holiness is perfect righteousness and goodness. Holiness will do and judge everything righteously. God is 3 Souls in one Spirit. God alone is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. These omni-powers are in his Spirit. Righteousness and holiness are the attributes of his souls. Our souls are created in the image of his soul. So, God wants us to be as holy as he is holy. "1 Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." But, God does not tell us to be omnipotent as he is omnipotent, because he did not make us in the image of his spirit, but our spirit has the likeness of his spirit. That is, if God's spirit has the intensity of the sun, our spirit is as a light of a candle. But in soul, we are in the image of God. Here, image is the exact copy of the soul of God, and likeness is the resemblance of the Spirit, that is the body of God. Man has a body of flesh that is created from the dust of the earth. God has souls and they are in his Spirit, and his omni-power Spirit is his body.

Babies are not born in sin. Sin will not be transferred from one person to the other, even from mother to child. But, we commit sin from our youth. "Psalm 25:7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: Job 20:11 His bones are full of the sin of his youth, Jeremiah 3:25 We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God. Ezekiel 23:21 Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in bruising thy teats by the Egyptians for the paps of thy youth." God tells his people to become holy. If we are his people, it will be possible for us to live a holy life, by the Grace of God. How do we become holy? It is by doing what God tells us to do through scriptures. Our holy life is our living in obedience to God.

God is holy and righteous. He is impartial to Jews and Gentiles, or Christians and Non-Christians. We sin from our youth. But, God wants us to become his sons/daughters and to be joint heirs with Jesus Christ to inherit his kingdom. "Luke 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ..." Most preachers preach and Christians believe that this status is free if we believe that Jesus died for us on the cross. It is a lie and it is the deception of Satan. But the pre-requisite is to obey God and thereby become his children. The sons/daughters are the heirs of the Father.

Isaiah 6:3 says that the seraphim worship God: "And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory." The same is told in "Revelation 4:8: they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty..." It seems that even though God has unique power attributes of omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience, he has more regard for his character attribute of holiness. Surprisingly, every person can have the attribute of holiness. But, nobody can attain his power attributes and so, God does not require it from us. God requires us to be holy as he is holy, and thus to become his sons/daughters to inherit his kingdom.

2. Is it possible for us to live holy?

God is omnipotent. For an example, he has created people. Can we create anything, for an example, a mosquito? No. So, God is not asking us to be omnipotent. God is omniscient. He knows all things, for an example, he knows how many hairs are on your head. God does not ask you know any such thing. God is omnipresent. He can be anywhere in the universe at the same time. We can only be where we are. God can do all these because his Spirit has omni-power and his persons (souls) are God since they are in his Spirit that is God. We are men/women since our souls are in human body. God does not require from us anything that God alone can do; no omni-power deed is required from us.

God has made us in his own image. "Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:.. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Our souls are in the image of the soul of God, that is, our soul is identical with the soul of God. Our spirit has the likeness of the spirit of God, that is, both are as lights, but if God's light is as sun, our light is as candle light. His spirit has omni-powers, our spirit has no power. Our body is either male or female, made out of dust, and the body of God is his omni-power spirit, he is neither male nor female. When we are born with body and soul. We receive the spirit as we are born again, that is, born of the spirit. "John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." God gives us his power in our spirit. We cannot receive power and truth from God, if we do not have the spirit from God. This spirit is holy and so it is also called the holy spirit. It is not God, but it is the spirit of man. I am the soul, I live in my body, and my spirit has the truth and the power of God. My soul with my spirit, can live a holy life.

Our Lord God tells us to be holy. Most of us think that it is impossible for humans to live a holy life. Some of us challenge the idea of a man becoming holy without even realizing that God is the one telling us to be holy. Critics say that even the Bible has no proof of a person, who lived a holy life. They make statements saying that everyone is born as sinner. It is not true. The Bible says that we begin to sin at our youth. They seems to praise Jesus by saying that he is the only one who has not committed sin. Let me leave it now, since it is not our topic. However, God is telling sinners, not to commit sin anymore and to live a holy life. Since Jesus Christ is not a fake and he requires it from sinners, it is possible for a sinner to live a holy life. And, Jesus Christ always tells the truth and he gives power to his people.

3. There is Proof that Holy Men are in the Bible

The following references from the Bible are evidence to the fact that people have lived and are now living holy lives.

God has brought the scriptures through holy men. They were ordinary men lived a holy life and were used of God. "Acts 3:21 ---, God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets ....  2 Peter 1:21 --- holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

The apostles were holy men. Ordinary fishermen, a tax collector, etc, became disciples of Jesus and were made apostles. They became holy. "Ephesians 3:5 it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;  Revelation 18:20 ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her."

Apostle Paul and the workers with him were living holy lives.  "1 Thessalonians 2:10 Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:"

Jesus Christ is coming again to receive those that are holy (both dead and alive). If the second coming of Jesus Christ is certain, it can also be certain there are holy people on earth waiting for his coming.  Revelation 20:6 says, "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection:"

If these people lived holy lives and some of us are now living holy lives, it is possible that others also can live holy lives. Born again people has spirit with the soul. The spirit is holy and it wants to please God. But the flesh wants to live according to the pleasures of the world. If the physical body dominates the soul, we will not live a holy life. But, if the soul is guided by the spirit, then we will live a holy life. Then, we will live as children of God with holiness and righteousness. Then, we will be joint-heirs with Jesus Christ throughout eternity.

4. How can we become holy?

A. Holiness from Revelation of Jesus Christ

"1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." Grace of God is granted to us at the revelation of Jesus Christ to enable us to be holy. What is the revelation of Jesus Christ? It is that the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is God, he is in the omni-power Spirit. He is no longer a man, even though he acknowledges that he was a man. But, Christians treat Jesus Christ as an elevated man or as a legend god as Hindu gods. This is not by the revelation of the word of God. If only we have the revelation of who Jesus Christ is, and accept the true Christ, God will give his grace. Then, we will be able to live a holy life.

B. Call for Separation that leads to Holiness

Holy life starts as we detach ourselves from the source of sin. Then we shall become the children of God and holiness shall become a way of life. "2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."

C. Follow the Word that leads to Holiness

Churches contain both good seed and tares. Godly people are wheat and worldly people are tares. This is told through a parable in Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43. Godly people will strive for holiness, but others will not. Wheat Christians will continue in the Word of God, become disciples, know the truth and be converted into new persons. "John 8:31 says, Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Here, free is to be free from sin, which is holy life. "James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

D. Follow the example of Jesus Christ

"1 Peter 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness" Jesus Christ has lived a holy life in order to leave a sample life for us so that we follow his foot steps and become holy. He died for us so that we, being dead to sins, live unto righteousness, which is a holy life.

Thank you for listening. God bless you.
