Believe in Jesus Christ and you will be saved. This is a famous cliché among Christians. But, what do we mean by believe in Jesus Christ? We believe that Jesus Christ will take us to heaven, no matter what we do. Is it believe in Jesus Christ? Let me give an example of believing. Say, I tell someone that I will give him ten thousand dollars if he come to my office the next day at 8:00 AM. If he needed the ten thousand dollars and if he believed me, he would have come to my office the next day at 8:00 AM. This means that he has believed in me. If he did not show up, it means that he did not have belief in me. This is what believe means. Did Jesus Christ told that he will take us to heaven, if we believe that he will take us to heaven? He did not. So, believing it is not believing Jesus Christ. It is your own belief or you have believed some preachers who say such things. Believing Jesus Christ is to believe what he says and to do them.
In Luke 6:46 Jesus Christ says: "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?." Doing what he says is believing him. Not doing what he says, is sin. If we do what he says, then we are not sinning, but doing righteousness. Jesus Christ tells what we must do to be saved or to inherit eternal life. So, if you believe Jesus Christ, do what he tells you to do for eternal life.
