"Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe (do) all things whatsoever I (Jesus Christ) have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.2 Corinthians 7:1 ... dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."

the Church of God (Tennessee).

Jesus Christ told Nicodemus in John 3: "3 I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. ... 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." So, born again is born of the spirit. Mostly Christians get confused 'born of the spirit' with religious life. But religion or religious observations are not of the holy spirit. It is that we receive the holy spirit from God in our soul. Another error is that most Christians think that born of the spirit is the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Let me give two links, which may clear your doubts. Links: 1. "born again", 2. "Spirit Baptism".
If you have referred to the "born again" article, you might have seen that 'born of the spirit' is not just one incident, but it is a process. In that process, our spirit will grow from being like a candle to the glory that is similar to the glory of Jesus Christ. This is the glory side of it. If we are not born of the spirit, we will be found naked on that day and will be thrown in to hell and to the lake of fire. Further, we will not understand the word of God, since the word is spiritual. Jesus Christ says in John 6:63 ... "the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." Colossians 1:9 says, "desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;" We see in "1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, ..." Beginning with teaching the word of God, the holy spirit guides us in the ways of God, etc, for the great day of meeting the Lord Jesus Christ. But, God gives you or lights the holy spirit in you as he lights a candle. If you nurture the holy spirit, and follow in his ways, this candle light will grow to shine as the sun. However, if you grieve him, or quench him, thinking that he is just a small candle light, he will leave you and will go back to God. You will not want this happen to you. So, don't be ashamed of the light, but delight in it. "Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
