As the flow of blood gives life to the body, the holy spirit gives life to the soul of a person. As the spirit enters a man, the spiritually dead man becomes spiritually alive (quickened). Genesis 2:7 says, (God) "breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." So, when God breathed the holy spirit into the man, he became a living SOUL. That is, his soul begins to live and so he became a born again man. This spiritual quickening exists only when the holy spirit is present. If the holy spirit departs, the born again man will again become a spiritually dead man. It does not mean physically dead; it means that his soul (eternal part of man) is considered dead because it is no longer being led into holiness by the holy spirit. Most Christians are taught to believe and to say that they have the holy spirit in themselves and that they are born again. This is deception. But by a simple test we can find out whether we have the holy spirit or not. It is this. The holy spirit will take us to holy living by obeying God. If our inner conscience loves to obey God and to live a holy life, then we have the holy spirit in us. If our inner conscience loves unrighteousness and plays games with God to go to heaven by short-cuts, then we do not have the holy spirit. If we do not have the Holy Spirit, how do we receive the Holy Spirit from God?
The Bible says that "it shall be given you." And the "it" is the holy spirit. How can this "it" be God? The gift of the holy spirit is given to those who repent and ask God. It, the holy spirit, is a gift. Matthew 4:17 says: "From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Luke 11 says: "9) I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you. 13) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" The same message is also found in John 4:10, John 8:12, Matthew 5:14-16, and Matthew 7:7-11. Romans 8:9 refers to the holy spirit as the Spirit of Christ, may be the reason being that the holy spirit is given to people through Jesus Christ, and he is the keeper of the holy spirit. Here, four different names, the 'light of life', the 'holy spirit', the 'spirit of man,' and the 'Spirit of Christ' refer to one and the same 'holy spirit'. This holy spirit is not God, because it is a spiritual gift from God, and God does not give himself as a gift to a person. The holy spirit does not compel a man to live a holy life; but he teaches God's word and guides the man to live a holy life. Then it is up to the person to live a holy life. If this person chooses not to live a holy life, that grieves the holy spirit. If he rejects the holy spirit then the holy spirit will leave him. Nobody can enter the kingdom of God without the holy spirit.
God Bless You
