"Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe (do) all things whatsoever I (Jesus Christ) have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. 2 Corinthians 7:1 ... dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."

Romans 3:10 says: "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:" Preachers quote this verse and claim: 'There has been and there will be no one righteous in the whole world'. They teach that righteousness is not achievable, even with the grace, power, and presence of God. They point out the phrase: 'no, not one:' definitely includes you and me. The tragedy of this deception is that Christians, recognizing themselves as sinners, sincerely believe that this verse is about them and other Christians. They believe this verse proves that there is no hope to ever become righteous, and that they are inevitably relegated to unrighteousness. Such hopelessness is tragic, but it is a LIE.
Let me correct this misrepresentation and deception by explaining the context of this verse, because its true meaning can be understood only when it is presented in context. It is my sincere wish that you will read these verses in their true context, and decide for yourself whether this matches the one you and your believer friends have been led to believe. Romans 3 says: "10) As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11) There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12) They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13) Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14) Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15) Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16) Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17) And the way of peace have they not known: 18) There is no fear of God before their eyes."
These verses 10 to 18 contain detailed descriptions of the unrighteous filthy people. Preachers say this description applies to you, me, and every other Christian. Are you such a person? I can tell you that I am not. These verses describe the characteristics of ungodly atheist criminals, and it is to these criminals that they apply. It is completely unnecessary for preachers to use these words to disparage Christ-seeking Christians. It is completely inappropriate to cite these words as a source of insult for those who are decent obedient disciples, for those who are striving to obey God, or even for those who are converted Christians. Preachers deceive Christians, and this deceit may encourage the lie that continued sin is OK – after all, if you can never be righteous, why even try? This is an inaccurate, inappropriate and devious application of Paul’s message from Romans 3:10, and its improper use falsely discourages Christians from pursuit of a life of holiness and righteousness.
