If we love and obey God with reverential fear, we will become born of God with his seed in us, and we will overcome all sins.

1. Are you the Light; do you have good works?

Are we candles? If we are candles, we must be lighted. If we are lighted, we must be placed on a candle stick, but not under a bed. If we are on the candle stick, we will give light to others and they will glorify God because of us. Jesus taught this as a parable. This parable is on Matthew 5:13-16, Mark 4:21&22, Luke 8:16&17, and 11:33-35. Let us study Matthew 5:13-16, Ephesians 5:14 and Luke 11:35. What does Jesus Christ wants us to do through this parable?

["Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."]

["Mark 4:21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? 22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad."]

["Luke 8:16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. 17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad."]

["Luke 11:33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light... 35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness."]

["Ephesians 5:14 says, Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 13 ... how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"]

2. If Salt lost its Savor, how can it be salted again?

"Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men." Jesus was telling his disciples that they are the salt of the earth. Salt is the most vital part in our food, but it is seldom recognized for its role. Without salt no food will have taste; yet if we have enough salt, nobody will recognize it since it is not a dish. Salt has a very powerful nature to be saltish and it is the very purpose of salt. Jesus compares his disciples to salt, which is the most needed and indispensable substance. But it would become good for nothing, if it lost its savor. So also, if his disciples lost the manifest presence of Jesus Christ in them, they would also become good for nothing.

3. Jesus is the Light of the world; Be lighted by Him.

"John 8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them." Verses 3-10 says that he was interrupted. A group of men brought a woman taken in adultery and so on. Then the men left the woman and went away. "11 says that Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." Jesus sent the woman away and continue to teach them. He compares them to lamps. The word of God, which are the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ, is spiritual oil. If we have received God's word in us, then we have the oil in us or in our lamps. Then Jesus says in "verse 12, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." Jesus tells this to his disciples. However, he tells us also, if we will follow him with the desire to become his disciples. He says: first, we will not walk in darkness anymore and will walk in his light. Next, we will receive his light in us; that is, Jesus Christ will ignite our spiritual oil with his light as in John 1:9. Now we are lighted by him and it leads us to eternal life. Since this light shines from us, we are lights.

4. If you are the Light; Shine, that is, do good works.

Jesus Christ continues to teach his disciples. He tells them in, "Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." If the light of Jesus Christ be in us, we will do the good works that he has done. If we believe that God the Father is in Jesus and if Jesus Christ is in us, he says in "John 14:12, .. the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." So, when we do good works, people will see us, we will be on a pedestal, and we cannot be hiding. Our light will be seen by people. And, when people see these works, they will glorify God, because these will be the same works that Jesus has done when he was a man. These works will be the manifestations of God. These will not be works of men. They will definitely not like the works of charitable organizations of politicians. Their charities are to exploit and to plunder poor people.

5. If your oil is not lighted, ask God to light your oil.

Mark 4:22 and Luke 8:17 says, "For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad." If we have received the holy spirit from God, that is, if we are lighted by God, we cannot be quiet without witnessing. We will not hide ourselves, but we will do good works. But if you have received the word of God, which is the oil, and are not doing good works, then God has not lighted your oil. "Ephesians 5:14 says, Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light." That is, ask God and he will light you with the holy spirit, so that you can also shine, with good works. Instead, if you pretend to have light, and say you have light (holy spirit) as many Christians do; then your light is darkness. "Luke 11:35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness." Then God says, take heed. So, repent, get down from the horse of pride, humble yourself, ask God for the holy spirit. "Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 13 ... how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" Surrender to God as a child and ask him as you ask your father, he will give you his holy spirit. Also, receive the life of Jesus Christ in you, so that you may shine for him with good works. Then, you will inherit the kingdom of God as his son. Then, you will be with Jesus Christ as joint heirs throughout eternity.
