Paul claims that he is an apostle for gentiles; he also says that he wished to be cursed for Jews, since they are his people. In doing so, he proves to be an ordinary Jew, but not an apostle. An apostle must be an ambassador to God. In new testament, it is in the new covenant, Jesus Christ broke the middle wall of separation, made the Jews and Gentiles as one. He told his disciples to preach the gospel to the entire world, but not to the Jews only. So in the new testament, there should be no separate Jew or Gentiles, but both must be one. It is in "Mark 16:15 Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." But Paul makes division even in apostleship, probably since he was not his disciple. Further God made no importance to the descendants of Abraham in the new testament, to the inheritance in the kingdom of God in heaven; Instead Jesus Christ give importance to the Holy Spirit. And, Further, Paul is the only apostle who is making a distinction, himself as the apostle of the gentiles, and Peter as the apostle of the circumcision, or of the Jews; but in reality they are all apostles of Jesus Christ to all people, both to Jews and Gentiles who were made one. God used apostle Paul, for the false preachers and false believers to stumble and fall. Apostle Peter write about apostle Paul in "2 Peter 3:15&16. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction." Paul purposely destroys unstable fake people.
"1
Brethren,
my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that
they might be saved."
A few things in this verse are to be noticed. Saved is to be saved from sinning,
then the result is to escape hell that is saved from the punishment for doing
sin, and to inherit the kingdom of God in heaven. But common teaching is that
salvation is that as we live in sin, we will escape hell, but it is the
deception calling it as salvation, and most
Christians believe this deception. We receive salvation by obeying the gospel of
Jesus Christ. Apostle's main function is to save people. Jesus told his apostles
to preach to all creatures in the world, but not to Jews only. The new testament
does not have Jews and Gentiles as separate, but as they are made as one. As an
apostle, Paul must also have to consider Jews and Gentiles as one for the sake
of the gospel and for to be saved. But in verse 1, Paul show his heart's desire
for Jews, despite he claims that he is an apostle of the gentiles. So, he not
only proves that he is an controversial person, but also he is a
bias person. So, he is selfish and with prejudice. He lacks character to be an
apostle.
"2-4. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge." With all his heart, apostle Paul wish to favor the Jews since he is a Jew. Yet he fully knows that they are rebellious people going in their own way, but not in the way of God. "3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God." Here Paul points out a couple of points how these Jews were not of God. 1) They have a zeal but they do not have no knowledge. It is like a joke that a pilot announces that our radar broke, so I do not know which direction we are going, so, to compensate that I am picking up speed. The same way these Jews have zeal, but they do not know the way. 2) God told Abraham to walk perfect, and to circumcise as a sign. Abraham walked perfect and circumcised, and Jews circumcised and called it perfect. This is how they '
establish their own righteousness'. Most evangelicals and theologians have a zeal towards Christian religion, but not according to scriptures. In the same way on those days Jews were very zealous towards Judaism, which was interpreted as 'zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.' "4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." In the new testament, or in the new covenant, all the old is nailed to the cross and are removed. Jesus has fulfilled them all the old and established the new for us as his gospel, or as his commands for us to obey. Obeying Jesus Christ is our righteousness, and it was the end of the old laws.
"5
For Moses
describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those
things shall live by them."
The laws of Moses were given only to the Jews, but not to gentiles, outside of
Jewish
territory. Those who live by them are righteous.
"6&7. 6
But the
righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart,
Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
7
Or, Who shall
descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)"
Even though Romans are primarily Gentiles, in this section Paul is writing to
them as if they were Jews. He is preaching Jesus Christ to them and asking them
to have faith in him. Paul just continues almost in the style of the 9th
chapter, saying God brought Christ, he raised him up from death; so, accept it,
without questioning it.
"8-11. 8
But what saith
it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the
word of faith, which we preach;
9
That if thou
shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart
that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10
For with the
heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation.
11
For the
scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."
Every apostle preach two things; one is preaching Jesus Christ, and the other is
preaching his gospel.
Apostle Paul should have preached Jesus Christ, but it is not in this context.
Here he tells Jews and gentiles to accept Jesus Christ; and says
just to believe and to confess his name, as a formula, for them to be saved.
"Matthew
10:32 says, 32
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before
my Father which is in heaven."
Jesus Christ also said about himself, and assured them that he will intercede
for them with the Father.
Jews or Gentiles, whoever call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved.
"12-14. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for
the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved." Here the Greek is a common name used for the gentiles, and
yes1 all are made as one people, no more Jews and gentiles. He give more
importance to call upon the name of Jesus Christ. It is part of preaching Jesus
Christ as he is God in the omnipotent Spirit now. "14
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?
and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall
they hear without a preacher?"
Now he says the importance of
preaching the name of Jesus Christ so that everybody should know. However,
verse 13
is the reminding of "Acts 2:21
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name
of the Lord shall be saved."
But in the context of
"Acts 2:21,
shall be saved"
is to be saved from the great tribulation just before millennium. But Paul says
about eternal salvation.
"15
And how shall
they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet
of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"
Apostle Paul could be quoting prophet Isaiah here. "Isaiah
52:
6
Therefore my
people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he
that doth speak: behold, it is I.
7 How
beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings,
that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth
salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!"
They who are sent to bring good tidings are his disciples and apostles. Now a
days anybody, even who are spiritually blind, deaf, and dead are preaching the
gospel; whereas they do not even know the gospel; how can they preach? They
preach false gospel as the gospel.
"16&17. 16
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath
believed our report?"
If they do not believe the true gospel, then how do they obey the gospel; they
do not, but they believe the fake false gospel. "17
So then faith
cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
Let us see
Isaiah.
"53:1
Who hath
believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?"
Christians do not hear the word of God, since they are very well satisfied with
the messages from their preachers, who are the serpents of Satan.
"18
But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth,
and their words unto the ends of the world."
Even though they say they do not know about God, the word of God says that they
all know about God and his truth; look at this verses. "Romans
1:
20
For the
invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being
understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so
that they are without excuse:
21
Because that,
when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but
became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened."
They know it, yet they are darkened in their heart, since they are evil.
"19&20. 19
But I
say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by
them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
20
But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I
was made manifest unto them that asked not after me."
We see this
in the last
chapter also.
Verse 20
appears
that God is not fair, and he is doing injustice.
Look at "Isaiah
65:1
I am
sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I
said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name."
The people who were not called by his name, and who
were not asking of God, are
the Gentiles; and
verse 1 says,
that previously they did not sought God, but now God is sought of them. So, it
is not injustice that God is found of them now. Apostle Paul did not bring the
full picture here, and so, it serves as a stumbling stone for false preachers.
"21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people." It also is from Isaiah, just the next verse, God says how bad the Jews were rejecting God, and so, God has rejected them. "Isaiah 65:2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;" You may read the whole chapter for the complete picture. Verse 2 is enough for the lesson here. So, most people were evil among Jews also.

Matthew 28:20, & Mark 16:15. Jesus Christ preached his commandments to obey, as his
Gospel; it is the true Gospel to inherit Eternal life. Genesis 3:1-4 & 2 Corinth 11:2-4. But Preachers, who are Serpents of Satan, preach the life of man Jesus just to believe, but not to live as a chaste virgin, as the gospel; it is another gospel, which cannot and will not give Eternal life. The true gospel will convert evil people to do good and thereby they will inherit the kingdom in heaven.
John 3:19-21 say that people are two kinds, evil and true. Evil doers will not come to the Light, who is God; but people of truth come to God for their deeds to be made manifest. We have good and evil people by our standard of our society or culture. These evil people may be converted to be doers of truth by the power of God, and they may inherit the kingdom of God in heaven.
