The author of the book of Romans is apostle Paul, and his name before his conversion was Saul. He wrote about himself in his letter
to Philippians; let me read this rather than explaining them. "Philippians 3:4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:" In the flesh means, it was by his birth. "5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;" So, even from his birth by his zealous Jewish family of Benjamin, and they were Pharisee. "6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless." And even personally he was very dedicated Jew, he was without blame according to the law. "7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ." But when he found the truth by Jesus, he threw out all the glory of the religion to garbage. "8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ." Now the primary motive of his life is to serve Jesus Christ. "Acts 22:3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day." Paul was a scholar in the scriptures and was learned from Gamaliel, let us see who Gamaliel was. "Acts 5:34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;" So his teacher was also a very reputable person. So, Paul being very zealous, and very thoroughly learned the scriptures, is excellent to write scriptures. But the wisdom of the world is foolishness to God. So, God is using his epistles not only to uplift true believers, but also as stumbling blocks for the fake believers and preachers to fall and be destroyed. So, when we study the epistles of Paul as scripture, we must study them with a pinch of salt, that is, we must study with the caution that whether is it a stumbling block intended for false preachers to fall or is it for us."1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God," Yes, apostle Paul was a true servant to Jesus Christ. He is separated to preach the gospel, so also every disciple of Jesus Christ is separated to preach his gospel. But Paul makes it a special privilege to him over other disciples; since he was never with the Master Guru Jesus to go through the discipleship. Further, he was the youngest of all and so he was a rooky apostle; and he had to fight, prove, and sell himself to be an apostle, but other disciples were verily accepted to be apostles.
"2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)" So, the gospel of God was promised by the prophets and by the scriptures even from the old testament. It is mentioned
in 1 Peter 1:10-12. The promise in the gospel of Jesus Christ is that we will inherit the kingdom of God in heaven, if we obey his commandments; that is in Matthews 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15&16. It was revealed to Abraham also as"3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;" It is in the genealogy of the Man Jesus. It is in old testament prophesies; and it is given in Matthew 1:1-17, and in Luke 3:23-38. Genealogy in Mathew and in Luke have differences. But it is not for doctrine or for such; it is to connect Jesus to King David. And Jesus was the Seed of the woman, that is of a Virgin, is also very important.
"4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:" Son of God was never by physical birth. Jesus Christ was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Holy Ghost, by the resurrection from the dead. We may study this from Psalm 2:27 and Acts 13:32&33. In our case, if we are sons of God, it could be by looking forward to the future adoption as his Sons. But, to Jesus Christ, it has really happened soon after his resurrection, and it was by declaration as the begotten Son of God, and he has entered the omnipotent Spirit body. And the power that was given to him is by the omnipotent Spirit. Here, the Spirit of holiness refers the Omnipotent Spirit body of God. It is in Revelation 12:5, at the ascension of Jesus Christ to the throne in heaven. More details are in this links: "Jesus became God."
"5
By whom we have
received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all
nations, for his name:"
Apostles are ambassadors to God; in order to make converts from all nations; to have
faith in him, and to obey him. Grace is given to obey Jesus Christ by faith. Those who
do not obey Jesus Christ do not have grace.
"6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:" Apostle considered the Romans that he writes are called of Jesus Christ; that is, they are really converted, since calling comes after a person is converted. Next verse that their calling is to become Saints, who are godly righteous people.
"7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ." It says as to all that is in Rome, but it refers only to those who are beloved of God, in their fellowship, who are called to be saint, but not others. But God loved the world in John 3:16 is entirely in a different sense. Most times Christians are confused between these two kinds of love. Here he wishes grace to them, but grace will be imparted only to the humble, they are the beloved. But in churches, it is used as just a wish, like we say, 'wish you the best'.
"8
First, I thank
my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of
throughout the whole world."
If they have become saints and holy, this is the proof of their faith; and this is spoken in
every Spiritual world, and they thanked God; notice, it must be through Jesus
Christ that we reach God the Father.
"Ephesians 5:
20
Giving
thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ;
"9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;" We cannot even reach God without Jesus Christ; yet how God the Father can be cited as a witness to man? Most of the times, in common usage, the three names of God are one. Then, the gospel of his Son is the gospel of the Kingdom of God. "Matthew 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom,… 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, …" Whenever Paul prays, he remembers them also. But please note that Paul did not gather prayer requests from people to pray to God for them, as a commission broker between God and them. Such are deceivers who serve their own belly.
"10
Making request,
if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of
God to come unto you."
One of the points that he was praying for; it was for his journey to Rome. Let
us also see what the purpose is for when he wants to go to Rome.
"11
For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the
end ye may be established;"
The gift that establishes people in God, is the Holy Spirit. But the gifts of
the Holy Ghost, may not establish people in God, since they may be given even to
rebellious as in Psalms 68:18 and mostly they are used in churches or ministry
establishments. Apostles have power to lay hands on believers, so that
they may receive these gifts.
"12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me." Here "the mutual faith" does not mean the faith toward each other, but the faith they both have in God; caution is in English; it may be taken as faith in each other, but it is not so.
"13 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles." Apostle Paul has solicited monitory help for poor believers, and he has admired those who helped him also. But in Corinthian church, he served them for free. Here also, he is not asking monitory help, but by fruits he means that he may have some conversion, that is fruit among people, but not fruit from believers. Present day preachers like to receive some fruit (money) from believers. Note that Romans are also Gentiles. Other Gentiles were also converted, and so, Paul expect that from the Romans also.
"14-16. 14
I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to
the unwise.
15
So, as much as
in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
16
For I am not
ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to
every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."
The gospel of Christ is
the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believe either Jew or gentile.
It is because it is done by the power that Jesus Christ has, and his presence
will be with his disciples working with power, who will be preaching the gospel;
it is in Matthew 28:18-20.
"18
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All
power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I
am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." The servants of
God preached Jesus Christ; Jesus as the Man, as well as Christ in the Omnipotent
Spirit as God; as in: Acts 3:20, 4:2,
5:42, 8:35, 17:3, 18, & 2 Corinthians 1:9, 4:5. They also have preached the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as
in:
Matthew 11:5, 24:14, 26:13, Mark 14:9, 16:15, Luke
4:18,7:22, 20:1, Acts 8:25, 14:7, 21, 16:10, Romans 1:5, 10:15, 15:9, 20, 1 Corinthians
1:17, 9:14, 16, 18, 15:1, 2 Corinthians 2:12, 5:16&17, 10:16, 11:7, Galatians 1:14, 2:2, 4:13, 1Thessalonians 2:9, Hebrews 4:2,
& 1 Peter 1:12, 4:6.
"17
For therein is
the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The
just shall live by faith."
The righteousness of God is revealed; that is, people could have
seen their righteousness in their lives. Please note: Only those who have the
righteousness of God, will have faith, and only they will have eternal life.
"18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;" That is, God has revealed his wrath upon all unrighteous or ungodly people, because they pretend to be righteous and preach ungodliness as righteousness. Example is in "Jude 1: 4 … ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, ..." They preach that lust is accepted by the grace of God.
"19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them." God has revealed about himself to them, and so they know about God. Despite of their knowledge, they embrace filthy lasciviousness as normal by perverting the grace of God.
"20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:" God has given us brain, intelligence, and his word. If we use them, we will distinguish and discern the invisible from the visible. That is, we see our bodies, trees, birds, fishes, insects, etc. We will know how we breath, live; how fish breath and live under water; how trees grow and multiply, and such. If we can understand them, we will know that God is working behind all of it.
"21
Because that,
when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but
became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened."
Even after these guys are made known the existence of God, they neither
acknowledge, nor glorify, nor thankful to God. So, God made them foolish. Their
heart
"22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.
23
And changed the
glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and
to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things."
They
think that they know it all, yet knowing nothing, God makes them worship idols.
"24
Wherefore God
also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to
dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25
Who changed the
truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the
Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."
God gave them up and allowed them to do all kind of perversions.
"26
For this cause
God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the
natural use into that which is against nature:
27
And likewise
also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one
toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in
themselves that recompense of their error which was meet."
God allows them to be lesbians and gays that are against nature and be punished with
strange sickness as aid and such, and
with eternal punishment in the lake of fire.

Matthew 28:20, & Mark 16:15. Jesus Christ preached his commandments to obey, as his
Gospel; it is the true Gospel to inherit Eternal life. Genesis 3:1-4 & 2 Corinth 11:2-4. But Preachers, who are Serpents of Satan, preach the life of man Jesus just to believe, but not to live as a chaste virgin, as the gospel; it is another gospel, which cannot and will not give Eternal life. The true gospel will convert evil people to do good and thereby they will inherit the kingdom in heaven.
John 3:19-21 say that people are two kinds, evil and true. Evil doers will not come to the Light, who is God; but people of truth come to God for their deeds to be made manifest. We have good and evil people by our standard of our society or culture. These evil people may be converted to be doers of truth by the power of God, and they may inherit the kingdom of God in heaven.
